Ruba Charina
Multidisciplinary Media Designer & Visual Artist
Ruba Charina is a multidisciplinary media designer and visual artist working across animation, digital art, video, and spatial design. Inspired by architecture, cinema, and urban environments, their practice explores the relationship between space, motion, and visual storytelling, creating atmospheric works that combine conceptual precision with emotional depth.
Practice
Artist Statement
My practice begins with space.
Coming from an architectural way of thinking, I am interested in how images, objects, light, sound, and movement can construct spaces—even when those spaces exist only on a screen. I often think about composition as something that can be entered rather than simply observed.
I work across animation, moving image, digital art, and spatial design. Moving between these forms allows me to explore how the same idea can change through scale, duration, rhythm, and perspective. I am particularly interested in the moment when something precise and structured begins to feel emotional, unstable, or alive.
Architecture influences the way I organize my work, but cinema influences the way I experience it. I think about framing, absence, repetition, transition, and what happens outside the visible image. Movement does not always need to be dramatic. Sometimes a small shift in light, an object slowly changing position, or an almost imperceptible transformation can completely alter how a space feels.
My process often starts with research, observation, and experimentation rather than a fixed visual outcome. I build systems, test relationships, remove elements, and allow the work to develop through this process. I am drawn to reduction—not as an attempt to make things empty, but as a way of making each remaining element more intentional.
Ultimately, I want to create work that exists somewhere between design and experience: work that communicates, but also leaves room for ambiguity; that has structure, but still feels atmospheric; and that invites the viewer to stay with an image or space long enough to notice something they might otherwise overlook.
